Shane & Dood

I see no reason why the Taipan should die a slow death. The boat was light years ahead of the rest for 20 odd years. The modifications to the main will see it stay at the front of the fleet for years to come.

The F16 is in its very early days. With optimised Blades being built in Aus and AHPC importing the Viper, The class will grow.

The Taipans have the best of both worlds. They have a strong class to sail in regularly. Plus they can add a spinnaker and sail as a F16 when they choose.

Not a bad position to be in, I think

correct me if I am wrong but the new "Bighead" mains on the taipans are designed to make the boat faster and more manageable.

If the boat becomes faster should its yardstick change? Or do the taipans out there doing mixed fleet racing just gain an advantage over the fleet?

go to the Taipan web site all info there about new main.
http://www.taipan.asn.au

Also I no of a few new boats that are on order and some that have already been delivered so I would say the class is still in good shape. As for the F16 class why not sail in both plenty already are and more will follow in time.

Yard stick will change when more data is available. only a few have changed there mainsail.

the reason i ask is im getting back into sailing sailed as a young kid and my father sailed till only about 6 years ago and was allways talking about getting a taipan and im looking at getting one in about a years time & was wondering if getting an F16 say a viper which would be a better option for long term comitment in sailing
