I know of 4 boats in SA none whom have anything to do with this forum.

So why dont you post the rule changes so we can then pass on.

3 in Adelaide.
1 in Lucendale.

thanks for the heads up. could you please forward my contact details to them and have them contact me.
the rule changes will not be posted on this site due tho the fact that we are only asking for comments from 5.7 owners. we're not realy interested in 4.9 or nacra sailors telling us to make the boat 10' wide when they have no vested interest in the boat.

thank you frdgehugger for your alarmingly naive comment, this is why I'm only looking for 5.7 sailors, the obviously have a higher I.Q

Hi dannyj,
I am curious as to why the 4 you mentioned above would not have anything to do with this forum. I must admit I often forget to catch up online, but it is encouraging to read other 5.7ers (and the other Taipan sailor) comments. Cheer,Carl

I've been hanging around the forum a little while but only just got my 5.7. Did a 13km run with the kite last week and love this boat, its not twitchy its just super responsive. We have sail numbers 187 and 225 at Kingston SE SA both with spin.

Hi Jeff,

Welcome to the 5.7 ranks Jeff. I own 118 (with spin) and agree the 5.7 is responsive. I haven't mastered it yet so each ride keeps me on the edge. My first cartwheel in 25Knots was an eye opener (and I was only laid up for 4 days). A bit different to the Arrow. We are the only 5.7 in Yeppoon Qld and race against nacra 16 sqs. 5.7 "Slitherin" is based in Mackay.
Have fun .Regards Carl

How many T5.7 were built? I guess only about 20 to 30? I know a few were exported to Europe and the US. The most I have ever seen at a national titles was 6 or 7. A wooden 5.7, painted blue, and one of the early prototypes I think, was in Adelaide for some years.

I assume Jim Boyer took the mould to the tip. It is/was a great design and beautiful to sail.

Maybe like a good wine, if you hold onto a 5.7 long enough and keep it stored in cotton wool, it will go up in value.

Phil

Hi Phil,
I was talking with Jim Boyer about 4 weeks ago and can confirm 100% that the moulds for the T5.7 went to the tip. The F18 signalled the end. You are about right with the total numbers built; Jim did tell me and I was supprised how little were built. I cannot remember the exact number but I am pretty sure it did not exceed 30-40.
It did not take off, I believe, because it was just too responsive for the general market. It seems most like them slower to accelerate and a lot heavier (like a 5.8 nacra). It is funny how some believe weight = strength.
It appears the value has held steady for the T5.7 at around $8,000.00. It is a great testimony for the T5.7 that the owners just don't really want to part with them. Regards, Carl

G'day Carl
Thanks for the reply.
Sail number 225 has hull numbers 85 and 86 which would make 43 x Boyer 5.7's
I believe thats the last one built and has factory cantered hulls.
regards Jeff

Hi Jeff

Great to see alot of banter about on the forum.
as I understand it the hulls were all moulded without cantering. at some point I'm told the deck mould was changed slightly. but the cantering was done via wedges on all boats. I've spoken to a few people now about the pros and cons of the cantering and the general feeling is that straight hulls dont seem to nosedive as much and they definately track straighter.
as you all may know by now I de-cantered my hulls and would definately not go back.

Fergs 225 cant be decantered the mould was changed for his cat unlike mine which has the wedges, I love the look of the cantered hulls and wouldn't change it, I used to walk past Fergs cat and timidly stroke it with reverentual awe . I agree about the posts on the forum it shows the 5.7's alive and kicking.

Hi all. Just had a great time at the Keppel Bay S.C. May day regatta. Three Taipan 5.7's turned up and of course lead the pack around the course (well mostly), these being Los Moros, Deadlypurrsuit and Slitheryn.

It was tight racing. 6 races in 20 knots was testing and a bit too much for us "oldies", thus we DNS a few races. Falling off and learning how to break a boom didn't help either.

Morrie also warned us the internal down haul is prone to failure and hard to service. Our exploded the next race thus we now have and external down haul like Los Moros. I recommend it to all.

It was great to socialise and hope that more 5.7 can get together soon. I reacon a spot in NSW would be great and more central for all. Regards Carl

Hi Bruce,

The results should be on the race results tab on the kbsc.com.au web page, BUT the web page is useless at present. I believe they are updating it. I will find out and let you know; I would have already, but I expect it is a sad result for us.

I am looking forward to a rematch with SPIDER. You sure made us work hard: excellent fun. So when is the next regatta in Hervey Bay? Doing anything for the Queens Birthday? Cheers. Carl

Hi Bruce,

At last a reply re the Yeppoon may day regatta. The Arrows cleaned up again. Hard to beat Daryl Skinner or Robbie lea (Wild child)in this sort of weather; and Robbie is the current National Arrow champ.

Hi Bruce,

Sounds like you are having fun. All work and no play up here. I am keen to get down for a sail again. Sorry I missed the 27th as I was away. If you could email me at carl@brownevans.com.au with any future events I will do what I can to get down.
Regards, Carl
