  1. AC Cadet 12" For Sale

Great looking boat Carl! $3,000 is a great deal for this brand new boat. The AC is an excellent boat for a teenager or small adult.  One person, trapeze ... what’s not to love! 😊
  2. Cobra for sale SOLD

Still for sale.  Price reduced to $4,300. This is one of the best Cobras in Australia.  Only sailed a handful of regattas since new.  Near new trampoline, near new square top main, near new mast, near new sheets and blocks.   Registered trailer that has been to QLD, NSW, SA from Victoria regularly. I may be able to assist with transport to the National Titles in Saratoga NSW in December 2017.

  5. V3.5 repairs and restoration

Nice job.  I have done a bit of work with dyneema (not shrouds) - it's fun to work with. I just use spliced loops most of the time but I have also used normal thimbles. I am interested in why you need those large thimbles - they are huge!

Thanks for sharing the story. Did you ever find out what sort of boat it is? You might not need a telescopic tiller extension?  Just use a longer piece of PVC tube and attach it using the existing hardware to the middle of the cross bar. It looks like you would be able to shorten the arms on the rudder stocks so they are not hanging over the beam.  I assume the 'v' cut into the end of the arms is a basic cleat for the rudder downhaul.  You may be able to get away with not using a traveller - many arrows don't use a traveller anymore.  You might need a boom vang though to keep the boom down when letting sheet off. I will be interested to hear how your Dyneema shrouds work out. What are the heavy duty thimbles for? Keep the photos coming and feel free to post them on my Arafura Cadet Facebook Page -

  8. Arafura Cadet build

Hi All   I am about to embark on a project to build an Arafura Cadet to encourage my kids to sail a catamaran.  I sail a Cobra with my daughter but want to encourage the other kids to sail too.  The AC is a lovely little boat.   I am not a builder, architect or engineer, so it's going to be a challenge!   How many community services team leaders does it take to build a small catamaran?  I guess we'll see!   I have purchased the plans and been allocated a sail number (1155) so I am good to go!   Now I just need to find the money to purchase materials and the time!   I thought I would share my progress here and I would like to invite you all to make comments and suggestions as I go.  I hope to learn from your collective wisdom.  I will ask questions as I go and will try to give you as much information as I can along the way so that you can all see what I am up to.   Thanks in advance.   Matthew

I thought it was time for an update. The beams are all cut, drilled and anodised. I have worked out just about all of the hardware I will use - mostly stuff I have already lying around.  I am slowly making my way through the sand-fill-sand-undercoat-sand-fill-sand-undercoat-sand etc stage.  It is taking a long time but has been enjoyable. I am confident that I will achieve a good undercoat finish. I am using two pack undercoat. A bit of an error there really (expensive and toxic) but at least I know it is 'high quality'. I am applying with a roller.  I have some time on my hands at the moment so I should have it ready for topcoat in a week or so. I am considering getting a professional top coat. What experience have others had with this? I have plenty of panel beaters around here. How much should I expect to pay for two AC hulls?  They won't need any prep - just the top coat. I haven't had any car spraying work done for about 25 years, so I wouldn't have a clue!

    Really enjoyable regatta.  Results: Photos:
  17. Hi All   This little Mexican is a bit confused ... :/   I have never been to this part of the world.   So the regatta is being run by the Maroochy Sailing Club which is at Chambers Island in the Maroochy River.,+Maroochydore+QLD/@-26.6428017,153.0801134,19z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x6b9376f3fae7b7e9:0xf02a35bd720fbd0   I was told the launching area was to be Mooloolaba Yacht Club.,153.1252317,19z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0000000000000000:0xd9036309d69fc965   David English says rigging area is "to the left of 'The Yacht Club'" ... I am not sure which 'left' David is referring to ... left (West) when looking at Google Maps?  Left when looking at the facility from Parkyn Parade?,153.13015,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x6b9375eb7054b94d:0x573c3c797140e2a9   Chambers Island is a 15 minute drive from 'The Yacht Club'.   Where is the racing area??  Can boats be securely stored with masts up over night?  Do we store boats on Chambers Island or by 'The Yacht Club' during the regatta?   Where will briefings be?    Do we have confirmed dates yet?  My understanding is that the regatta is from 2/1/2016 to 8/1/2016.  I guess that means registration and the invitation race is on Saturday 2/1/2016 and championship races will be between Sunday 3/1/2016 and Friday 8/1/2016.   Coming from Victoria and arriving at the registration/rigging area in the morning on 2/1/2016 means I will need to leave on New Years Eve ...   Sorry for so many questions ...   Matthew

Can anyone suggest a good online/mail order supplier of stainless fasteners? I need beam bolts for the AC. I dont tend to have much time for traditional shopping so online works best for me.

OK, here is the 'parts list' and comments on what I have sourced so far. Marine Ply Supplier sourced Fibreglass and epoxy Suppliers sourced Mast Old Mosquito mast or second hand AC mast or new paper tiger section Boom, beams, crossbar Local aluminium supplier Tiller extension DIY Rudder boxes DIY aluminium square tube Centreboard DIY foam/glass or second hand Rudders Second hand mosquito rudders Sails I would love to find some second hand sails in reasonably good condition, but I don't like my chances ... A new set of sails will be very expensive. As it is a child training boat the sails don't need to be the latest fabric etc. What is the cheapest option to discuss with sail makers? Ropes Local boat shop and second hand Blocks, pulleys, cleats Hopefully some good quality second hand stuff here. Trampoline DIY from old mosquito tramp Rigging DIY trapeze wires from dyneema Stays from local chandlery Beach wheels DIY using plastic hub wheelbarrow wheels and aluminium tube. Or second hand Miscellaneous Wind indicator, hiking straps, etc - TBC Hicking straps from old mosquito * edited to update list

I have stripped back the port hull. I weighed it after I removed the beams and hardware and it weighed 16.2kg. After stripping off all the paint and glass from the hull it now weighs 14.4kg.

Great weather today so got to have some time out in the sun stripping the hulls. I purchased a better heat gun and that made a difference. I tried paint stripper too which worked well but I preferred the heat gun. It's slow work ... but I am getting there. I have some pictures for those interested. I also have some video!
