What is the clear for on the front beam on a std Hobie 14?

If it's a small stainless jam cleat close to the mast it's probably for the jib furling line

Yes it's the small stainless cleat But boat is not a turbo . No jib.

    On a cat rig, If you are running a slack rig (allowing mast rake upwind) this cleat can be used, with a line attached to the forestay, to stand the mast up for better downwind performance. I'm told that in Europe they use a heavy shock cord in place of the cord and cleat, this stands the mast up as soon as mainsheet tension in eased.

    Windrush 14s had a separate line for each of 2 forestays, hence 2 cleats out wide on their front beam.
