    Nacra 4.5 or 5.0

Hi DeckChair, sorry for the late reply, did not see your post. having owned and raced both the 5.0 and 4.5. I can attest that the 4.5 1up is a much better and faster boat than a cat rigged 5.0. The 4.5 is a very quick single handed nacra and having the furling jib is a real plus for handling and tacking and often in heavy wind while racing upwind you can furl the jib and not lose any speed. My son currently races a very quick 4.5 (one of the best setup and tuned)that we are looking to sell if you are interested. There is a Nacra 4.5 facebook page that is a resource for info. If you go 4.5 you will never look back. Also the 4.5 has very active racing fleets in many states. Many of the 4.5 skippers weigh above 85kg and are very quick. Let me know if you want any further info on our boat or the 4.5 in general. Where are you located? We are in Brisbane. Mark

    CAT WANTED

Have a look at a Nacra 4.5. Very good boat for 1 up sailing plus you can easily take another person. Furling jib for easy use. Faster than windrush 14, hobie 14 etc and often beats hobie 16 as well. Designed for crew weight of around 100kg. There is a face book group as well, Search Nacra 4.5 Community.
  3. They are an excellent boat for what you are wanting to do We have had 3 and recently sold one to upgrade my sons. It was sold within the club and never went to advertise as a buyer was waiting. This happens a lot with them. My son (16) has one and races regularly he is only light (55kg) and can sail it in all conditions 1 up. We have a good fleet of them at Lake Samsonvale 4 racing and soon to be 5 or 6. Great atmosphere and people only to happy to help out with boat setups, tips etc. For those of you on Face book there is a group that has recently been formed, "Nacra 4.5 Community" so join there as well. I agree with Madboutcats closer to 14k not 20k!! Parts easy to get, simple to rig, great to sail and fast.

    Rigging question: Nacra 4.5

Hi Clance, On my sons 4.5 we go through the bottom pulley, back up and through the thimble on halyard and a couple of half hitches around itself. We find this gives you enough purchase but you can easily go down and up again for more purchase if you need it. Let me know if you need any other tips. Where are you located as we have a decent fleet of 4.5s at LSWSA on Brisbanes North side. Mark

    Nacra 4.5 Vs 430

The Nacra sailors are a great bunch as you probably already know with your 16sq. we are expecting 70+ boats at the Nationals in December. Looks like you sail solo. So if you want kite sailing go the 430 or the 4.5 if looking for non spinnaker class racing. Both have good fleets, however the 4.5 fleet is growing rapidly!
