    5.8 Pointing

Josh, I like dood's approach, and agree, upwind I generally don't look at the main, pull it on as hard as you can and sail strait off the jib. I've had the same issue comparing to other boats. Best bet is to come up and pace your pointing ability etc. against other 5.8's. We've just got another 5.8 into WSC so i think we're up to about 5 now.

    Hobie 14's for sale

Howdy all, I have a Hobie 14 turbo that needs to be moved on, since my move to a 5.8 it just doesn't get the use, the boat is in moderate condition, everything works and runs well however will need a set of sails to be raced, I can conform sail number if needed. Boat could easily be competitive with a little TLC. Boat is on a good condition gal double trailer, (we added a second rack for carrying two H14's), the trailer doesn't have rego however all lights etc work. Boat would make a great entry level race boat, its what I learnt on. I can email some pics and more info if needed. Make me an offer. I have a second Hobie 14 for sale, this one is an older blue one (can confirm number) this was our second boat and was never really used for racing, Boat needs a good amount of TLC as it no longer has a sail etc. It comes with two sets of rigging, the trailer is not in good condition, however is towable. Boat would suit casual/learner sailor or even as a parts boat. This one is free to good home. I live in Bilpin in the blue mountains. Contact Sebastian on 0467 662 487

    Hobie 14 sail wanted!

Hey I have a hobie 14 turbo that i want to get rid of but buying a new sail (old one riped) is out of the question as the boat is prob only worth $1000 any way. So does any one have a cheap sail that i could buy by any chance, it really doesn't matter what condition it is in, as long as it's sailable then it should be good! seb

    tips for buying hobie

Hey mate I know this is quite old now but if your still looking around at boats the best advice i can give you on a hobie is don't buy one! i own 2 H14's a turbo and a standard rig but both have never been as good as i would have liked! the turbo has way to much sail for the pethetic amount of hull boyoncy and both boats are hard/ Impossible to write with just one person. My advice would be to get a maricat! great boats or if you are keen to spend a little more get a nacra 5.2 a little bigger much more hull and easier to sail by a long shot! seb

    Which Nacra?

Hi It seems you've already made up your mind on the nacra 17 but thought ide put in my bit anyway. I'm 17 and also share your passion for high adrenelin sports. I race moto x, down hill mtb, rock climbing etc. I've never sailed a 17 but i've been sailing on the 5.8's for the last year or so and they are fantastic boats! very controllable and got plenty of power, enough to keep me gripping my seat! but by far the best thing about the 5.8's is the social group surrounding them, everyone is extremly happy to share "go fast" tips and all the latest on these boats. and even though on the water the compitition is tight and sometimes quite violent (as you'll know from any racing) everyone always gathers afterwards to share sailing stories and often to much beer. so any way there's my opinion. The 5.8's are a fantastic boat, but i'm sure you'll be happy whatever nacra u chose. Seb

    Diamond wire tension + fix

Hi everyone, I have noticed that the diamond wire on my mast is peeling off where the spreaders contact the mast. It has only just started happening but i don't think i should sail it as it is. it is quite an old boat so it is prob expected but i was wondering what i do to take the diamond wire off, i don't want to take it off then not be able to get it to the right tension again. it is taring the rivits out on one side because of the corosion it looks like. shoud i drill it out completly and put new rivits in or is that not nesercery????? also is there something you can put between the mast and the stainless to stop eletrilitic corousion???? any ideas or help would be great. Thanks seb

    Diamond wire tension + fix

OK well i know its been a long time in the coming but i have finally pulled apart the mast and cleaned it up, i have been really busy with exams and that sort of thing so the boat has been a bit neglected over the winter, but now the weather is warming i'm getting really pumped about this season....so.... There is a lot of corrosion on the mast but is not tooo widely spread, the peice that was on there (as u know) was about 2 inches by about 6 or so wraped around the front of the mast.... well it looks as though it has been drilled b4 because there are more rivits on 1 side..... there is a lot of corosion on the front and a hole from where the rivets were, (the 2 rivet holes have opened to one) but it hasn't corroded back up to far. and there is also a bit of damage where the side of the bracket attached. we've cleaned it up and now the question is how big should the sleeve be that we put over? obviously to small and it will fold up, but i suppose if its too big it may be affected by the bend in the mast.???? any ideas???? thanks guys, regards seb
